How to prepare for WBCS Exam?

#Day 1, Scheme and Syllabus....



Public Service Commission, West Bengal has introduced a Combined 
Competitive Examination for recruitment to the West Bengal Civil 
Services (Executive) and certain other services in two successive stages 
viz. (1) Preliminary Examination (Objective type) for the selection of 
candidates for the Main Examination
(2) Main Examination (Bengali, English and Optional Paper Descriptive, Rest papers are objective) and interview.

The Preliminary Examination is to be held in various centres of West 
Bengal sometime in the month of February (Unofficial announcement) and the Main Exam. In the 
month of June - July..

Eligibility Criteria : A Degree of a recognised University (No restrictions in Percentage)....

Age - Shouldn't be less than 21 for A, C, D Group, 
For Group B, not below 20 Years....

N. B - Presently there is no bar for appearing at the Exam, subject to admissibility of age (i.e 32 years for General Castle), Age relaxation is available for Backward Caste....


Preparation Strategy and Study Plan:

Scheme of the Preliminary Examination : The Preliminary, Examination will consist of only one Paper, viz., a paper on 'General Studies '. The Paper will be an objective type consisting of 
200 multiple-choice questions. The paper  will  carry  200 marks and will be of 2.30 hours duration.... 
The standard of the paper will be of the level of knowledge as expected of a graduate of any 
faculty of a recognized University. The paper will include questions covering the following fields of knowledge :

(i) English Composition 25 Marks

(ii)  General Science  25 Marks

(iii)  Current Affairs 25 Marks

(iv) History of India 25 Marks

(v) Geography of India With special reference to West Bengal  25 Marks

(vi) Indian Polity and Economy 25 Marks

(vii)  Indian National Movement 25 Marks

(viii) General Mental Ability 25 Marks

Total Marks 200, And If you're able to score 60% of total marks i.e 120, There is a Cogent chance to be appeared in Mains...


Compulsory Papers:

Paper I

Bengali /Hindi /Urdu/ Nepali/ Santali : Letter Writing (within 150 words) / Drafting of Report (within 200 words), Précis Writing, Composition and Translation from English to Bengali/Hindi/ 
Urdu/Nepali/Santali

Paper II
English- Letter writing (within 150 words) 
Drafting of Report (within 200 words), Précis Writing, Composition and Translation from Mother Tongue...

Paper III

General Studies -1 : (i) Indian History with 
special emphasis on National Movement and (ii) Geography of India with special reference to Westbengal



Paper IV 
General Studies -II : Science and Scientific & Technological advancement, Environment, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

Paper V
The Constitution of India and Indian 
Economy. Including role and function of Reserve Bank of India..

Paper VI
Arithmetic and Test of Reasoning.

Six Compulsory papers, each carried 200 marks.... 
200×6=Total 1200 Marks....  


Optional Paper :

There is a list of optional papers(37 Subjects) . A candidate is at liberty to choose Optional Papers from that list. Each subject contains two papers & carries and allows three (3) hours time to complete the same in each paper... 
Suggested Optional Paper- History, Geography, Bengali, Sociology and Anthropology...

Marks 200×2 =400

N.B - No need to take optional paper for Group C & D...

Personality Test :

For Group 'A' & ' B' 200 marks, For C 150,  100 marks for Group D..  

So,  Total Marks 1800 for Group 'A' & 'B',  1350 for Group 'C' and 1300 for Group D......
